Murray Chosen as Indy's Irish Citizen of the Year and Parade Grand Marshal
March 3, 2019
Kevin Charles Murray is the 2019 Irish Citizen of the Year and Parade Grand Marshal.
Kevin co-founded Indy's current Parade with Jack Moriarty in 1981. At the time Indianapolis did not have a Parade. Kevin has been heavily involved in the Irish community for decades. Read is bio here.
The tradition of Indy's Irish Citizen of the Year started in the late 70's at the downtown Indianapolis Athletic Club (host of the Parade) where they honored an Irish member each year. When the Club closed in 2004, the honor was expanded to Indy's Irish community. Former Irish Members of the Year from the Athletic Club days and recent Irish Citizen's of the Year meet each year to nominate Indy's Irish Citizen of the Year. The duties of the Irish Citizen of the Year include Greening the Canal on March 14th, being honored as the Parade Grand Marshal on March 15th and official starter of the Shamrock Run Walk on March 16th. The events take place in downtown Indianapolis and are hosted by The Athletic Club Foundation.
